PVHDP is a not-for-profit organization created by the County of Santa Cruz, the city of Watsonville, the Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley and Salud Para La Gente.Recently the hospital had announced that it would be closing on Jan. 28 if they did not find someone to buy it. Devastating, not only to the 55,000 residents of Watsonville but also to North Monterey County.The hospital has been in the community for more than 30 years; delivering more than 1,000 babies a year while providing emergency services to Watsonville and North Monterey County.In Friday’s announcement, the hospital reported it had enough funds to keep operating until the end of March 2022. “While we still have work to do before a final agreement, this step averted imminent closure of Watsonville Community Hospital and provides a realistic path toward a stable, sustainable hospital that supports the health and welfare of the people of Pajaro Valley. This is a framework that allows us to seek necessary legislative and financial support to complete the acquisition and renew the hospital under public stewardship,” said Mimi Hall, president and CEO of PVHDP. “
