Currently, there’s only one Whataburger restaurant in Georgia. The Southern-based burger chain, however, is planning to bump that number up to nine by the end of next year.
On Thursday, Whataburger announced that they would be opening up eight new restaurants in the Peach State. The fast-food chain began in 1950 in Corpus Christi, Texas, and currently has nearly 900 locations across the country. Around 700 of locations exist in Texas alone.

“The Atlanta area is a great location for Whataburger, and we couldn’t be more pleased to make our entry into the community with our Kennesaw restaurant expected to open this fall,” said Whataburger Market Leader Jon Barideaux. “We’ve had the good fortune of meeting quite a few of our new neighbors already, and we’ve already felt every bit of their hospitality.”
Whataburger plans to hire 180 employees at its first restaurant in Kennesaw and a total of more than 1,400 at the area restaurants by the end of 2023.
Two restaurants that will open next year will be located in Woodstock and Kennesaw, Georgia. Following that, Whataburger is opening other locations in Cumming, Buford, Athens, Commerce, and Dawsonville, Georgia in 2023.
“It was only a matter of time before Whataburger answered the call of fans in the Atlanta area,” a company press release said. “This fall, Atlantans will finally have the chance to sink their teeth into Whataburger’s big flavors and fresh ingredients served up with hometown hospitality.”
