UAW union employees vote to accept John Deere contract

Union workers for John Deere will be going back to work after accepting the latest contract from the company. On Wednesday night, United Auto Workers voted on the third contract offered by John Deere. Of those who voted, 61% voted yes and 39% voted no. The UAW has told union workers that third shift is voluntary Wednesday night as they just passed the latest contract. All others will be expected to return to work Thursday. Nearly 10,000 union workers had been on strike for more than a month after rejecting the first contract. The second contract was voted down on Nov. 2, which would have given members an immediate 10% raise and what John Deere called industry-best wages and benefits.Last week, UAW warned union employees that this contract would be the “last, best and final” offer.
