Cars are crawling along the California-Nevada border as holiday traffic snarls the artery between Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
Traffic was backed up 19 miles by 5 p.m. Saturday on southbound I-15, according to the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada. RTC recommends drivers fill up on gas, check their tire pressure and be prepared for long delays as more holiday-goers drive home to California today.
Shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday, the 13-mile drive between Jean, Nev. and Primm on the California border was taking drivers an hour and a half — and climbing. With no traffic, that drive normally takes about 15 minutes.
Anyone who’s driven between Vegas and L.A. on a three-day weekend or holiday commute time knows this stretch can be hellish. Seeking alternate routes is generally futile, as I-15 is the only major road that doesn’t take drivers on hours-long detours to the north or south.
