Just weeks after the announcement that Publix would be moving into Louisville, another grocery chain is making its entrance in the Bluegrass State, according to a report from Louisville Business First.Hy-Vee, a grocery chain based in Des Moines, Iowa, recently announced an expansion into four new states, including Kentucky, its first since 2009. According to the Des Moines Register, Hy-Vee CEO Randy Edeker said the company will introduce seven new stores to Indiana, Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky in 2023.The Des Moines Register reported on a video posted on Dec. 8 to Zipline, the company’s internal communications platform, showed Edeker detailing the new stores. One new store will open in Louisville, with additional stores in Huntsville, Alabama; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Nashville, Knoxville and Memphis, Tennessee.Continuing coverage: Publix has already signed a lease for a second Louisville location”This is the growth for the next 25 years for Hy-Vee in this territory,” Edeker said on the video. “If we can build out 50 stores in this market, we estimate that is $6 billion . But overnight we’re going to go from a regional company to a national company.
