Up until now, Georgians have only been able to get their hands around a Whataburger if they paid a visit to Thomasville or traveled out of state. On Thursday, Mar. 31, the Texas-based fast food chain announced plans to roll out eight more Georgia locations within the next two years, including three in the Athens area.
Though very few details were given, the nearby Whataburger restaurants scheduled to open in Athens in 2023 will be at 3321 Lexington Rd. and 3201 Atlanta Hwy., and 100 Pottery Rd. in Commerce.
The company will be breaking ground on its Kennesaw location on Apr. 6 for a projected fall 2022 opening, followed by a Woodstock location by the end of the year. According to a press release provided to the Banner-Herald, the Kennesaw restaurant will bring 180 jobs to the local community.
