Skippy is recalling tens of thousands of jars of peanut butter in 18 states – including New York, New Jersey and Connecticut – over concerns that they may be contaminated with fragments of stainless steel from a piece of manufacturing equipment.
The recall affects 9,353 cases – or 161,692 pounds – of Skippy’s Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread, Reduced Fat Chunky Peanut Butter Spread and Creamy Peanut Butter Blended With Plant Protein, Hormel Foods, Skippy’s parent company, announced on Wednesday.
That’s roughly 60,000 jars of peanut butter, according to reports.
No injuries have been reported to date, the company said. No other varieties of peanut butter were affected.
Skippy has recalled products with UPC codes of 37600-10520, 37600-10667, 37600-10499, or 37600-88095 and “best if used by” dates in May 2023 on the top of the lid. A full list of products and states that have been affected can be found on the company’s website.
“We apologize to our fans for this inconvenience,” Skippy said in a statement. “Our company is committed to product quality and will continue to invest in our processes to ensure the quality and wholesomeness of our products.”
