Ever since he purchased Twitter, eccentric billionaire Elon Musk is no longer holding anything back, and that’s saying a lot considering his history on the social media platform.
In one of his most recent tweets, Musk told congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez not to flirt with him. Just when it seemed he had crossed a line, Musk is now advocating for psychedelic drug use as an alternative to antidepressants.
“I’ve talked to many more people who were helped by psychedelics & ketamine than SSRIs & amphetamines,” Musk tweeted.
Elon Musk joins the conversation
Musk’s tweet was in response to a conversation between two Twitter users. Marc Andreessen [@pmarca] first pondered on whether ‘Adderall plus ubiquitous Google searches have bigger effects’ on our present society than social media.
Alex Cohen [@anothercohen] responded to Andreessen by saying, “Prescribed psychedelics will replace amphetamines and SSRIs over the next decade (although I hope it’s sooner than that).” When Andreessen asked how that would change our culture and society, Musk stepped in with his personal opinion.
While a conversation about society’s dependance on pharmaceuticals is certainly one to have, Musk doesn’t seem to weigh in the fact that he has more influence than most humans on this planet. When he says things about psychedelic drug use in less than 140 characters, it’s easy to take his word for it instead of truly sparking a debate with scientific data and research.
