Gas prices in Massachusetts hit record high, AAA says



REPORTER: IT’S THE PRICTHE AT MANY DRIVERS NEVER EVEN NOTICE. BUT DIESEL IS THE UNSEEN INGREDIENT IN SO MANY OF THE THINGS WE BUY. AND IN MASSACHUSETTS, ITS PRICE HAS MORE THAN UBDOLED. WARREN SHAW USES DIESEL FUEL TO POR WEHIS TRACTORS AND OTHER EQUIPMENT ON HIS DAIRY FARM IN DRACUT. REPORTER: ACCORDING TO AAA, IN MASSACHUSETTS THE AVERAGE STCO OF A REGULAR GAS HAS GONE FROM $2.86 A GALLON TO $4.39 A GALLON OVER THE PAST YEAR, UP 5.3% IN THAT SAME TIME, DIESEL HAS GONE FROM $3.03 TO $6. A27 GALLON, AN INCREASE OF 107%. WARREN, WHO’S ALSO PRESIDENT OF THE MASSACHUSETTS FARM BUREAU, SAYS HE’S NOT RAISED HIS MILK PRICES, AT LEAST NOT YET. Gas prices in Massachusetts have hit a record high, according to new data Monday from AAA.The average price of regular gasoline in the Bay State is now $4.39 per gallon, according to AAA. The national average is $4.32 per gallon, AAA said.The price of diesel also hit a record high in Massachusetts. The price is now $6.27 per gallon — that’s more than double what it was one year ago. In Massachusetts, the average price for a gallon of regular has climbed 18 cents in the last week. In the last month, the average has increased by 27 cents.Experts said fluctuating oil prices and a tight gas supply are to blame for the recent spike.
