Overnight into Friday, Florida gas prices rose yet again to an all-time record high.

As of Friday morning, the average price was $4.46, up 7 cents from Thursday, and up from $4.19 a week ago.

Florida is one of the 10 states with the largest increases.

“Gas prices are so high that it has really put a damper on my finances,” Florida resident Edwin Martinez said.

“Have you ever paid this much for gas in your life?” WESH asked.

“No, nobody has,” said Neal Trantham, another Florida resident.

One year ago, gas was $3 per gallon, nearly $1.50 cheaper.

Central Floridians are certain about one thing — the high price of gas is affecting their budget and lives.

“I’m supposed to go to New Jersey and drive. I don’t think I’m going to do it. It’s just way too expensive,” Martinez said.

“Is there anything you can do to save money? Buy fewer groceries?” we asked.

“Well, groceries are just as big of a problem as the gas. There’s not much you can do about it except pay,” Trantham said.

As we approach $4.50 per gallon, the general consensus is that prices are too high.

Now, the state of Florida just announced a move that is hoped to bring the price of gas down in Florida.

The sale of a special winter blend of gas will now be allowed, which will increase the supply of gas available for people to buy.

The Biden administration announced Wednesday it would cancel three upcoming offshore oil and gas leases — two in the Gulf of Mexico and one in Alaska — over a lack of interest and delays.

The cancellation of the previously planned Cook Inlet sale in Alaska, as well as the lease sales in the Gulf, ensures that millions of acres of offshore waters will not be developed for oil and gas — a significant victory for climate advocates.

However, Biden officials have also emphasized the need for more domestic oil production to combat high gasoline prices, which have angered the public and inflamed inflation.
