A 23-year-old employee of a McDonald’s in Crofton is dead following a Friday morning shooting at the restaurant, according to Anne Arundel County Police.
Police officers arriving to the restaurant at 4:45 a.m. Friday found Britrain Marcelus Gray, 23, of Odenton, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound, the department said in a news release. Gray was an employee of the McDonald’s location, and was working at the time, police said.
Police said the shooting was targeted, and not a random act of violence. No arrests were announced Friday afternoon. Police said there is “no ongoing threat to public safety.” Police did not release any other details of the shooting and are continuing their investigation.
Gray was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
The restaurant, located at 1130 Crain Highway, was closed following the shooting. Investigators, employees and cleaning crews were inside the restaurant Friday afternoon.
McDonald’s said in a statement that the corporation was “saddened by the senseless and tragic loss of our friend and colleague.”
“Our thoughts are with the employee’s family and loved ones at this difficult time,” the statement said.
The fast food chain said it is “in the process of offering our employees counseling and another support they may need[,] and working with law enforcement in their ongoing investigation.”
The shooting was the sixth homicide in Anne Arundel County this year.

In March, Kintrell Todd McEachern was shot and killed by his son, Kintrell Todd McEachern Jr., who later shot himself.
A few days prior, Aiyana Walker, 21, of Pasadena was killed and a 16-year-old boy was injured in a shooting during a large gathering in the Freetown neighborhood. No arrests have been made in connection with that homicide.
Police arrested Jaden Crowner, 18, of Brooklyn, on March 8 after Devin Freeman, 19, of Millersville, was found dead in Brooklyn Park on Feb. 27.
Also in March, 42-year-old Neka Natalie Jennings was found dead by police alongside her husband, 39-year-old Dajuan Jennings who investigators said shot his wife before shooting himself.
Annapolis Police have investigated one homicide this year, when Shakeo Williams, 21, was shot and killed in January. No suspects have been arrested in this case.
