Drive-thru COVID-19 test kit distribution event held in Uniondale – News 12 Bronx

A drive-thru event in Uniondale was held Thursday at Mitchel Field to get COVID-19 test kits into the hands of parents as children prepare to head back to school.

A total of 20,000 kits was distributed. Up to three kits were allowed per car on a first come, first served basis.

The line grew so long and so fast that the county began handing the kits out 90 minutes ahead of schedule.

The distribution came as Long Island saw another single-day record for positive COVID-19 cases

“The interesting thing is the hospitalizations, and the ICU numbers are so much lower in proportion to the amount of spike in cases,” says Nassau Executive Laura Curran.

At the event, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran also informed residents about additional PCR COVID-19 testing opportunities,
including a new drive-thru site in partnership with Northwell Health that will
be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Appointments are required.

“The distribution of at-home test kits provides a convenient resource to keep our communities safe, while alleviating long lines at clinics and doctors’ offices,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Lawrence Eisenstein.

Any extra tests the county has will be given to schools and to homeless shelters.
