After a surge in demand for testing, with long lines at several COVID-19 test sites across the city, one pharmacy came up with a new idea: 24-hour testing.

“I got here at 9:15 a.m., and I’ve been waiting a long time and the lines are incredible,” said Sue Miszewski, who was waiting for a test.
At Hayat Pharmacy on Layton Avenue in Milwaukee people can get a COVID-19 when they want it.
“So yes, we are 24 hours, and as you can see, people are very interested in testing right now,” Hayat Pharmacy President Tamir Kaloti said.
“The way COVID-19 is spreading right now, we need to have a lot of testing,” said Jim Awe, of Cedarburg.
Pharmacists said this concept will continue at Hayat as long as there’s a need, and in this community, they’ve seen it.
“Very early times at 7 a.m. until about 9 p.m., there was still huge lines at that time, so we decided we need to stay open 24 hours,” Kolati said.
The line Saturday morning stretched across the parking lot, down the street almost all the way to freeway entrance.
Hayat hopes this site will help offset the burden of testing demand that has spiked over the holidays.
“We were actually trying to get tested yesterday, and everywhere closed so early, so we were here at 9 a.m., to wait in line, but I think it’s really helpful because it is hard to get tested right now,” Muskego resident Kelly Gahagan said.
“I’d like to thank them for doing this for the community. There’s a big need, so whoever owns Hayat, thank you very much,” Miszewski said.
There is no plan yet how long the site will stay open for 24 hours. At this point, the pharmacy said it’s indefinite and will be evaluated if that need changes.
