Nantucket shops that rely on UPS are bracing for trouble after the shipping company failed to make ferry reservations for its trucks.The company missed the priority window to make reservations for this summer, and by the time it came to light, ferries were close to full capacity for large trucks, the Boston Globe reported.A spokesperson for UPS said it’s working to find other transportation to ensure packages are delivered on time.”Our priority is to maintain outstanding service reliability for all our customers. UPS has ferry reservations and is working on other transportation options to ensure packages are delivered on time to the island during the busy summer season,” UPS said in a statement. Officials said UPS is the biggest carrier of standard deliveries to Nantucket.The Steamship Authority declined to comment on the travel information of any specific customers, but said it routinely works with freight shippers to address logistical issues. “When issues related to delivering the necessities of life or freight crucial to supporting the economy of the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, we understand the importance of those shipments and work with customers to find solutions,” the Steamship Authority wrote in a statement.
