California gas prices hit a record and Sacramento’s prices are even higher
The pain at the pump for California drivers is continuing with the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded spiking to a new state record on Monday and prices running even higher in Sacramento. According to AAA, the average price of gas in California is $4.682 on Monday. That’s up from $4.466 a month ago and $3.176 at the same period a year ago. The previous record was set in 2012. In Sacramento, the average price of gas on Monday is $4.704, just shy of a new record set on Sunday. Stockton and Modesto drivers are facing new record prices on Monday. In Stockton, the average price is $4.659. Modesto’s has $4.606 a gallon. “Gas prices will likely fluctuate up and down a few cents weekly, but we do not expect significant drops until the price of crude oil consistently stays under $80 a barrel,” AAA spokesperson Sergio Avila said last week when Northern California cities were setting earlier records.
