U.S. stocks pared their losses in afternoon trading, shaking off much of a morning slump as investors parsed the minutes of the most recent meeting of the Federal Reserve.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.3%, off its earlier lows. The S&P 500 was down 0.1% and the Nasdaq Composite was down 0.3%, after being down more than 1% in the morning.
