Disruptive passenger forces American Airlines Flight 694 to return to Sky Harbor Airport – The Arizona Republic

American Airlines planes sit at Terminal 4 at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix on Oct. 1, 2020.

An American Airlines flight from Phoenix to Honolulu had to be rerouted due to a disruptive passenger Sunday evening, according to American Airlines officials.

Flight 694 was already mid-air before needing to make an unscheduled return to Phoenix. The plane departed from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport around 3:30 p.m. and landed safely back at 6:53 p.m. Phoenix law enforcement officials met the aircraft on arrival at the gate.

American Airlines did not elaborate on what type of disruption the passenger was making, but commended the in-flight staff for working to keep customers safe as they travel.

The FBI stated it is aware of the incident and is gathering information that may lead to an arrest and possible charges against the disruptive passenger.

No identifying details were released about the passenger.

Phoenix police did not respond to questions about the incident.
