Anne Arundel County police are investigating a shooting at the McDonald’s in Gambrills that killed a 23-year-old employee. Police said officers were called around 4:45 a.m. Friday for a shooting at the McDonald’s at 1130 Crain Highway.”We know that the shooting occurred from outside of the restaurant into the establishment,” Anne Arundel County police Cpl. Chris Anderson said.Police said the assailant walked up to the drive-thru window and shot the employee, who was identified as Britrain Marcellus Gray, of Odenton. He died at the scene inside the restaurant in the middle of his shift.”There were three other employees inside the store at the time who were physically unharmed,” Anderson said. “The information that we have is that they heard the commotion, the gun, the broken glass, the shots being fired, but did not witness the incident.”Police are searching for whoever shot the victim, who ran away toward the Royal Farms across the street from the McDonald’s. “We believe he was on foot. There was no interaction between the suspect and the victim,” Anderson said. “But the information that (detectives have) gathered so far is leaning toward that this was a targeted incident and not random.”McDonald’s sent a statement to 11 News, saying: “We are saddened by the senseless and tragic loss of our friend and colleague. Our thoughts are with the employee’s family and loved ones at this difficult time. We are in the process of offering our employees counseling and another support they may need and working with law enforcement in their ongoing investigation.” The shooting left community members upset.”It’s just crazy the world we live in now,” said Bridget Scanlon, of Crofton.”That’s terrible. I can’t believe this. This is crazy. Poor kid. They’re nice people over there, nice kids. I don’t get it. It’s crazy,” said Paul Beitzell, of Crofton.”It shouldn’t be a 24-hour McDonald’s, really. There should be certain hours for McDonald’s and stuff like that. But 24 hours?
